Jersey Water has installed another outdoor community water refill point, as part of its long-term plans to build an Island-wide network.
Located in the heart of St John’s Village, the new fountain is thanks to a collaboration between the water utility and a local trust, which helped fund its installation.
Unveiling the new refill point, Martin Skyba, Jersey Water’s Network Manager commented:
“This refill point adds to the growing number located across the Island which we are gradually rolling out. These fountains give the public access to free water refills and, from an environmental perspective, reduce Islanders’ reliance on single-use plastic bottles. Our aim is to install a minimum of two fountains a year at popular locations around the Island. I would also like to thank Jayen Limited for their contribution towards the installation of the refill point.”
Julia Williams from the St John Youth and Community Trust said:
“We are really proud to have facilitated the installation of this water refill point in St John. It is a positive legacy for the trust, which has, for many years, been focused on supporting community efforts in the parish.”
Andy Jehan, Constable of St John, added:
“This new refill point is a wonderful development for our parish. Not only does it provide an accessible, practical service for both parishioners and visitors to St John’s village, but it also aligns with our ongoing efforts to promote and facilitate sustainability among Islanders more generally. I encourage everyone to take advantage of this new facility.”
Jersey Water will shortly be submitting planning applications for two additional community refill points, at Howard Davis Park and St Brelade’s Bay, which the utility hopes to roll out later this year.
