In our ‘Day in the Life of…’ Series we meet the people behind the scenes, hear about their typical day and what makes them tick.
Meet the Batho Team
Name: Paul Batho.
Job Title at Jersey Water: Network Manager.
What makes you spring out of bed in the morning?
The thought of what the day may bring and beating the traffic.
What does your normal day look like? Busy! I meet with the Leak Detection Team first thing, answer telephone calls, deal with day to day issues, meetings, organizing projects check on budgets and compile reports.
What couldn’t you live your life without? My Family.
What is your favourite part of your job? Completion of projects knowing that we have done a good job on time and within budget, our strong team spirit in the Network Team.
And the least favourite? Friday afternoons, as it seems that Contractors and Customers remember they had to call us with a query and do this on Friday afternoons.
How did you get to where you are today? Hard work, being fair minded, being approachable and honest.
What is it like working with your son? Since I left school I have always worked alongside family members, my brother in law taught me my plumbing trade, I really like working with Harry, we do disagree sometimes but we never take that home. We have a great relationship in and out of work.
Random fact about yourself: My fear of heights is getting worse as I get older!!
Name: Harry Batho.
Job Title at Jersey Water: Accounts Payable Administrator.
What makes you spring out of bed in the morning? The thought of working with 9 wonderful women.
What does your normal day look like? Scanning invoices, processing purchase orders, paying wages and I’m head of the Social Committee.
What couldn’t you live your life without? IRN BRU.
What is your favourite part of your job? Speaking with so many different people, whether it be suppliers, customers or colleagues.
And the least favourite? Working with 9 women.
How did you get to where you are today? Hard work, perseverance and being the comic relief on the team.
What is it like working with your father? Not too bad, we are in different Departments, so don’t spend too much time with each other but the old man’s alright!
Random fact about yourself: I want to be a pirate, not like the mean modern ones, like the old cool ones…..YARRRR.
