Jersey Water will be carrying out some major infrastructure works to the treated mains water network this summer. Work is planned in areas of St Helier and at Millbrook, St Lawrence.
Commencing on Monday 18 August, service water mains and connections will be replaced in David Place and Val Plaisant, St Helier. This will be followed by similar works at the southern part of St Saviour’s Road at the end of August.
The work involves renewing all the underground water supply infrastructure and replacing old pipes, some of which are over 100 years old. When complete, the new pipes and equipment will provide improved security of supply for Jersey Water’s customers.
In October, major improvement works are planned to be carried out on some strategic trunk water mains on St Aubin’s Inner Road, at the entrance to Waterworks Valley, Millbrook in St Lawrence.
Undertaken in conjunction with the Transport & Technical Services (TTS) and with approval of the Parish, the Millbrook works are timed to cause the least possible disruption to the traffic flows. Jersey Water will be providing signs for alternative routes to and from St Helier for the two week period in which the road will be closed over the October school half term.
Access to properties will be maintained at all times as all of the above named works are taking place.
Commenting on the planned works, Infrastructure Manager Hugo Wilson said:
“These are vital works to ensure the long-term security of the water supply network and we are working closely with the relevant authorities and keeping residents informed.”
“There is never an ideal time for any works to be carried out on Jersey’s busy roads and inevitably some disruption will be caused; but we hope that people will appreciate that these are necessary works which will help to maintain the robustness of the mains water network for the next 100 years.”
