La Motte Street will be closed for 4 weeks from 8 March 2010 to enable works on behalf of Jersey Water and the Transport and Technical Services Department (TTS). Jersey Water will be upgrading and renewing the existing water main with TTS carrying out resurfacing works on completion. The two organisations have worked closely together to minimise the disruption to the area and have carried out a full consultation exercise with residents and businesses of the area.

For the first 3 weeks Jersey Water will be upgrading their water main and La Motte Street will be closed. Bus routes will be diverted for the duration of the works and the bus stop in La Motte Street will be suspended, with the nearest available bus stops located in Grenville Street and St. Saviours Road. Signage will be in place to keep motorists and pedestrians informed. In the final week, the section of La Motte Street from Snow Hill to Hilary Street will be closed between 9.00am and 4.00pm on weekdays for resurfacing. Access to the rest of La Motte St will be via Hilary St. Bus routes will be diverted during these times when the bus stop in La Motte Street will be closed.
Jersey Water will be renewing the water main in La Motte Street which is 110 years old, using a new method of structural spray to re-line the main. They will also renew the services to properties so that once complete, the mains and services will last for another 100 years.
Jersey Water is aware that working in town affects many people and businesses, which is why they only renew pipes when they have to. The new method of working will reduce disruption, taking only 3 weeks compared to the 8 weeks if traditional methods were used.
Jersey Water and TTS apologise for any disruption that these works cause and will make efforts to assist with minimising the disturbance. If you wish to contact either Jersey Water or TTS regarding these works, please telephone:
