Jersey Water has today announced its tariffs for 2012.
With effect from 1 April 2012, metered and unmetered water charges will increase by approximately 2.5%. Standing charges remain unchanged for both metered and unmetered supplies.
Managing Director, Howard Snowden, commented:
“The Company has a policy of keeping tariff increases at or below the rate of inflation wherever possible. We are pleased that we have been able to limit this increase, which is the first increase in three years for our metered customers, to just 2.5% compared to a rate of inflation in September of 5.4%. In fact, this is the tenth consecutive year in which increases have been below the rate of inflation. In real terms, the price of water has fallen by approximately 16% for metered customers and 9% for unmetered customers in that time frame.”
“The Company is proud of its track record in limiting increases in charges over the past decade. This has been achieved against a backdrop of increasing energy and treatment costs, more onerous regulatory requirements and other cost pressures. Through regular and sustained efficiency improvements the Company has been able to keep price increases for customers to a minimum whilst continuing to provide water of a very high quality and maintain customer service levels.”
“The Company continues to promote metering as the fairest way for customers to pay for water and in 2011 we installed over 3,000 meters as part of our universal metering programme. Approximately, 55% of connections are now metered. The benefits of metering are already being seen through a decrease in demand for water, an increased awareness amongst customers of the need to minimise waste and the identification of leakage on private pipe work.”
“There are still many customers who would benefit from reduced water charges by switching to meter. Customers interested in having a meter fitted can elect to have one fitted now rather than wait until the metering programme arrives in their area.”
