At Jersey Water, we provide safe, clean and fresh water to over 90% of the people that live in Jersey. As we live on an island, we have don’t have many places where water is found naturally so nearly all of our water comes from rainwater that is collected and then carefully stored in different locations across the island.
The Jersey New Waterworks Company (or Jersey Water as we like to call it), was started in 1882, and is the oldest established company in Jersey.
The story started approximately 130 years ago, with one small well in St. Lawrence. At the time it was the only source for tap water supply and this water was just for the people living in St Helier. Since then, we’ve got a lot bigger and now there are 20 different sites across the island, that all work together to make sure that we all get plenty of nice clean water when we need it.
