Jersey Water wishes to reassure customers who may be experiencing a ‘taste’ or ‘odour’ in treated mains water that is affecting some areas of the Island.
A relatively small number of customers have reported an ‘earthy’ taste or odour in either cold or heated water. The cause of this is very likely to be due to a microscopic algal bloom in one of the reservoirs, which can happen when unusually warm and sunny weather conditions occur, as was the case in March this year.
Daily tests of the water supply from source to tap confirm that the water supply meets all quality requirements and there is no risk to public health.
All of the appropriate tests and measures are underway to resolve this matter as swiftly as possible.
