Now in its fifth year and launched today, Jersey Water is offering a Bursary Award towards the cost of studies and providing paid work experience during holiday periods to one successful applicant.
The bursary scheme started in 2009 by the then Chairman of Jersey Water, David Norman. The aim then as it is now is to provide support both financially along with work experience to be made available to a local student undertaking a first undergraduate degree in any of the following areas:
- Engineering (civil, mechanical, electrical)
- Water resources, management and conservation
- Environment sciences
- Chemistry
Cheryl Kaye, HR Manager for Jersey Water commented “We are delighted to be offering for the fifth year a Bursary Award to help support a local student along with paid work experience during holiday time. Based on feedback from our previous students we continue to ensure that work experience provided is relevant and practical to the degree the student is studying. Each of our students to date via the scheme have gone on to develop successful careers in their chosen field or have continued their studies, as an example Lauren McCarthy who is studying Chemistry was one of only 8 students at Bristol University offered an opportunity to study for a year at the British Columbia University in Vancouver, Canada. We look forward to receiving applications for this year’s scheme and working with the successful applicant”
