Jersey Water is pleased to announce that their Bursary Award for 2015 has been awarded to Elizabeth Cornish. Formally a student at Jersey College for Girls, Elizabeth will be studying Chemistry at the University of Birmingham from September.
Elizabeth commented “I am delighted to receive the bursary from Jersey Water and look forward to working at Jersey Water during holiday periods when I return to undertake work experience that will support my studies.”
Jersey Water would also like to congratulate Conor Hubert, a previous Bursary Award recipient, who has recently graduated with a Masters of Civil Engineering from Bristol University, and who will shortly be embarking on a new career in the civil engineering profession.
Reflecting on his bursary experience at Jersey Water, Conor commented “I have enjoyed being given the freedom and responsibility to be able to get involved in a number of projects at Jersey Water where I have been treated as part of the team. The experience I have gained with Jersey Water has complemented my studies and provided opportunities to develop practical engineering skills within a business environment. Projects I have worked on have ranged from small jobs that I managed on my own, through to larger projects such as working on plans to update the Desalination Plant.”
The Jersey Water Bursary is now in its seventh year and is designed to assist local students embarking on an undergraduate degree course in a subject relevant to the supply of water (including engineering, environmental sciences, water resources, management and conservation chemistry). The Award provides funding for one successful applicant each year towards the cost of study for the duration of their time at university. As well as financial assistance, Jersey Water also offers a paid work experience programme during holiday periods.
Cheryl Kaye, HR Manager at Jersey Water commented: “We look forward to welcoming Elizabeth as our latest Bursary student and wish Conor every success as he starts his new job in November. We will be inviting applications for next year’s Bursary Scheme in January 2016, and further information about the application process will be available on the Jersey Water Website.
In the meantime if potential applicants for the scheme would like to hear directly from our Bursary students about their personal experiences of working at Jersey Water, we have recently produced some videos which are available on our website and Facebook page. Potential applicants are also welcome to contact me directly for an informal chat.”
