With the current cold dry weather we are experiencing, many people are using both reservoirs for walking and running or exercising their dogs. However, Jersey Water has had reports recently of dog owners that are not following the requirements of use when exercising their dogs at Queens Valley or Val de La Mare Reservoir.
Both facilities have the following rules in place, which are to safeguard all users as well as the facility.
All dogs must be kept on a lead at all times (regardless of their size)
You must clear up after your dog and deposit waste in one of the bins provided and located around the reservoir.
Do not let your dog enter the water under any circumstance.
Howard Snowden, MD of Jersey Water commented; “We appreciate that both reservoirs are popular for walking dogs but we do need to ensure that the rules are observed so everyone can enjoy the area. Dogs not on leads can be frightening for users that are not used to dogs whether it is families or individuals, plus it is not good for wildlife in the area. Our Facilities Team will continue to monitor things but if we continue to receive further reports of dog owners being irresponsible we will need to reconsider allowing the reservoir to be used for dog walking.”
