Jersey Water has today announced its tariffs for 2008. With effect from 1 April 2008, there will be an increase of 2.3% in the price of water charged for by meter. Increases in other charges for water, including supplies charged on an unmeasured basis, will be 3.5%. Standing charges will not be increased.
Managing Director & Engineer of Jersey Water, Howard Snowden, commented:
“We are keen to keep price increases to a minimum and have managed to limit the increase to 3.5% for unmeasured customers and 2.3% for metered customers, despite continuing inflationary pressures on our costs. This is the sixth consecutive year in which price increases for water have remained at or below inflation.
“Despite the increased rainfall this summer and the current healthy state of our reservoirs, there is only finite water storage capacity available. With less predictable rainfall patterns we are increasingly conscious of the need to conserve water and wish to encourage our customers to use water sensibly all year round.
“Converting to paying for water by meter is one way customers can play their part in sensible water usage. It is estimated that metered customers use on average around 10% less water than those who don’t have a meter. Customers can also benefit as they only pay for the water they use. Whilst it is not mandatory, many customers find a change to metering beneficial. The Company will fit a water meter free of charge, wherever customer plumbing arrangements allow.”
