Jersey Water announces the start of a major project at Millbrook, St Lawrence in October. This project is part of Jersey Water’s ongoing capital programme to renew the water supply infrastructure. Similar projects have been undertaken in David Place, Val Plaisant and St Saviour’s Road over the past year, with the replacement of all underground water supply infrastructure, which includes pipes, valves and customer service connections.

The project at Millbrook, at the junction of Waterworks Valley and St Aubin’s Inner Road, includes the simplification of a number of strategic trunk water mains, their inter-connections and installation of new isolation valves. The work is due to commence on Monday 10th October and will be carried out in a number of planned stages, with an expected completion date of Wednesday 30th November.
Information regarding the planned works will be in place in the area from Monday 26th September and all stages of the works will be signposted in advance. Most of the project will be completed using traffic lights. The road will only be closed between Waterworks Valley and Rue du Trachy for nine days between 22nd and 30th October.
Residents and businesses in the area will be able to access their properties at all times during the project and will receive information separately. Regular information will also be placed in the media as well as on Jersey Water’s website (www.jersewater.je).
Working closely with Transport & Technical Services (TTS) and with approval of the Parish, the project on the Inner Road has been timed to cause the least possible disruption to traffic flows. All diversions will be clearly marked and, in conjunction with TTS and Connex, temporary alternate bus routes will be in place, with an additional shuttle bus operating between Rue de Trachy and Liberation Station.
Commenting on the planned works, Infrastructure Manager Hugo Willson said:
“These are important works which will ensure the long-term security of the water supply network and we are working closely with the relevant authorities and keeping businesses and residents informed. It has taken over one year of planning to ensure that the project is carried out at the best time of year with least possible disruption”. “The project will be temporarily suspended on Wednesday 19th October to enable people access to polling stations on Election Day and, together with TTS, we are offering other utilities the opportunity to carry out minor works in the area, to make best use of the road closure in a co-ordinated approach”. “There is never an ideal time for any works to be carried out on Jersey’s busy roads and inevitably some disruption will be caused; but we hope that people will appreciate that these are important works which will help to maintain the robustness of the mains water network for the next 100 years”.
