EMPLOYEE TESTIMONIAL
Paul Batho,
Network Manager
Jersey Water people will go the extra mile, not because it’s expected of them but because they want to. They understand the importance of our work.
Paul Batho joined Jersey Water as an apprentice plumber 34 years ago, working his way up from digging holes in the road to a place on the senior management team.
Great place for a career
I’ve always been fairly ambitious and had the drive to succeed. When I was digging trenches as an apprentice plumber all those years ago, I knew that was just the start of my career. Through hard work and the determination to always try to do a good job, I’ve worked my way upwards (and sometimes sideways!).
A job with real meaning
I love Jersey Water because of the importance of our work. People take it for granted that when they turn the tap on, fresh, clean water comes out. They don’t understand the intricate network that goes into supplying it. My team are responsible for keeping the water flowing without interruption.
A place for the best people
I’m fortunate to work with great colleagues, which is great because I’m a people-person. Jersey Water people will go the extra mile, not because it’s expected of them but because they want to. They understand the importance of our work. They also know I wouldn’t ask them to do something I wouldn’t be willing to do myself. We have some the lowest leakage rates in the UK, which is a great source of pride for us all. Seeing people happy in what they do is what it’s all about for me.
No finer place to live
I plan to retire in a few years’ time, when I turn 60. I’m hoping to buy a motorhome and disappear into the sunset with my wife. It’s a big, wide world out there and lots of places to see. We haven’t travelled much before. We haven’t had to because there can’t be many finer places to live and work than Jersey, can there?
