20 Jersey charities have been shortlisted to receive funding from Jersey Waters 130th Anniversary Fund, which has been established to mark the anniversary of the Company’s incorporation in 1882. The fund of £130,000 will be used to support local initiatives by Jersey charities that will benefit the Island community. Awards will be made to successful charities at a ceremony on Wednesday 7th November.
The awards were launched in July and charities were able to apply for up to £10,000 from the fund. Over 90 applications for funding were received, with many original and innovative schemes being suggested. The judging team which consisted of members of the staff, management and the Board of Jersey Water as well as two independent members, have had a difficult time in making their selection to ensure the funding was able to help as many projects as possible.
Helier Smith, Jersey Water’s Finance Director said “We are delighted by the number of applications and the response we have had to our Anniversary Fund, which has been overwhelming. Our judging team had a very tough job drawing up the shortlist. All of the applications we received were of a very high calibre and all were for worthwhile causes. We look forward to announcing the winners on Wednesday and then working with them over the coming months to bring their projects to life.”
